If you live in the Salt Lake area, you most likely visit Temple Square once a year to see the Christmas lights. Maybe another couple of times to attend a wedding event. You also might come for General Conference, if you’re lucky to get tickets. But Temple Square is fun to visit year round and there are so many activities to choose from – even for a date night.
Go on a Self-Guided Tour
Most of the buildings on Temple Square are open to the public, and only in a few of them you’ll need a guide. Good places to pick from for a self-guided tour include the Church History Museum, the Discovery Center at the Family History Library, and the North and South Visitors’ Centers. Explore the Mormon Trails exhibit at the museum, or learn more about your family history with the interactive Discovery Center. There are so many interesting activities to do that will definitely spark good conversation.
Watch a Free Performance
Temple Square hosts a variety of concerts, performances, and recitals throughout the year. All performances (except at the Conference Center Theater) are free and happen on most Fridays and Saturdays. Enjoy vocalists, orchestras, folk bands, choirs, instrumentalists – you name it. There are a few seasonal concerts throughout the year that require tickets. They are free but you still need to request them ahead of time for those special performances. Check out the events calendar to plan the perfect night out!
Go on a Stroll
Going on a date doesn’t have to mean “neat planned out activities”. It can be as simple as going on a stroll around the 35 acres of Temple Square. Admire the architecture, explore the monuments and statues, take in the beautiful French-inspired gardens, and cross the street to enjoy the peaceful Brigham Young Historic Park.
Have a Romantic Dinner
On top of all the history and culture that lives on Temple Square, there are also delectable dining options for every budget. The Roof Restaurant is the place to go for a fine dining experience, featuring a live pianist, a buffet that changes every night with international and traditional dishes and award-winning desserts.
The Garden Restaurant is a more casual option that features exquisite dishes such as the Fried Green BLT and the Flat Iron Steak served with polenta and fried egg. Plus, a view of downtown and Temple Square that will make any date even more special!
But a dinner can be romantic anywhere with the right company. If you’re catching a concert and don’t have a lot of time, try the historic Lion House Pantry or the Nauvoo Café in the lobby of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. You’ll love the famous Lion House Rolls and the dessert options in the Pantry! The turkey pot pies in the Nauvoo Café are scrumptious and freshly baked everyday.
