Nothing says winter like a delicious cup of steaming hot cocoa paired with a yummy treat to have you in the sugar coma of your wildest dreams. Here in Salt Lake City, there is no shortage of sugar in sight this holiday season, and we’ve picked some of our favorite places to warm up and indulge your sweet tooth this winter!
Creme Brûlé French Toast at The Nauvoo Café
The Nauvoo Cafe serves up some of the best french toast this side of Temple Square! If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re in for a treat. What makes this French Toast stand out from all the rest are its ingredients, which include Lion House Rolls soaked in a delicious custard mixture with vanilla, maple syrup and orange extract. According to Chef Scott, “the secret is to let the pan of rolls and custard mixture set overnight-allowing the rolls to soak up the custard, creating that French Toast magic!” Need we say more? Come and try these from 7:00am till 10:30am Monday through Friday!
The Pie Assortment at Eva’s Bakery
Eva’s Bakery is the home of many artsy instagram photos and some absolutely delicious baked goods. Eva’s Bakery stands out from all if its neighbors on Main Street with its inviting and intriguing blue and yellow exterior. What catches the eye on the outside certainly does not end there, with an even more inviting interior reminiscent of a parisian style bakery that’ll make you feel like you’re half way across the world. There is no shortage of mouth-watering pastries in this fun little downtown Boulangerie, but we have to recommend the incredible assortment of pies they have this holiday season! The interesting thing about Eva’s is that they are always trying new things, so make sure to call to find out what kind of pies they’re offering this month!

The Girls at RubySnap
Rest assured, you won’t find cookies like these anywhere but in Salt Lake City. With the exception of the Frida cookie, which is made with spicy chocolate, a chile de árbol ganache center, and topped with cinnamon toasted pepitas (yes, all the yum!) Ruby, the mastermind behind RubySnap, names her cookies after influential people in her life, including family members, friends, people she’s worked with, etc. We think this adds that special little touch to these freshly made cookies, so stop by their brick & mortar location in downtown Salt Lake or find their dough at your local Harmon’s store!
Orange Rolls at The Lion House Pantry
The Lion House Pantry has long been known for its famous Lion House Rolls-which, if you haven’t had, are the ultimate melt-in-your-mouth comfort food on Temple Square. But whether you’re a Lion House Roll aficionado or you’ve never tried them before, these Orange Rolls are a great little twist on this classic recipe that’ll leave you wanting more.
Beignets at Pig & a Jelly Jar
I’ve been dreaming about beignets ever since seeing Tiana prepare them so deliciously in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, only to have my dreams crushed by knowing they’re a staple…in Louisiana. Although the Beignets at Cafe Du Monde are still on my foodie bucket list, knowing that Pig & a Jelly Jar serves such amazing southern comfort food so close to home is a complete game changer. If there’s something that’s always guaranteed to put a smile on someone’s face, it’s fried dough. Coated with powdered sugar and coupled with their delicious blueberry lavender jam, these scrumptious little pastries are the perfect pick-me-up on these cold winter days.
The Toasted Coconut Cupcake from The Sweet Tooth Fairy
Sweet Tooth voters took to the polls this year and voted this confectionery masterpiece as the Sweet Tooth Fairy’s most popular cupcake! We definitely think that voters were onto something, since you can never really go wrong with a vanilla cupcake and vanilla frosting. And don’t get me wrong, I probably love chocolate more than I should, but with their toasted coconut garnish generously sprinkled on top, you’ll feel like you’re somewhere in the Caribbean, away from Jack Frost’s nippy touch.
Chocolate Cinnamon Cake at the Garden Restaurant
Chocolate. Cinnamon. Cake. Three words that should always be grouped together in a sentence. As if the amazing view of Temple Square weren’t enough, The Garden Restaurant also offers a melt-in-your-mouth Chocolate Cinnamon Cake made with chocolate buttercream, dark chocolate ganache and typically served with a vanilla bean ice cream. The flavor of ice cream may vary during the season, but what never changes is how delicious this combination of chocolate is year-round!
Heavenly Hot Cakes at Penny Ann’s Cafe
These fluffy golden pancake pillows can only be found at Penny Ann’s Cafe-or perhaps your grandmother’s kitchen. These Heavenly Hot Cakes taste just as good as they sound, but don’t just take our word for it; Penny Ann’s actually won Best of State for their Breakfast, with their Hot Cakes leading the pack.
Monkey Business Gourmet Toast at the Protein Foundry
In case you’re trying to get a head start on your New Year’s resolutions, (you know, to cut ties with all the sugar and carbs you’ve been inhaling during the holidays!) we recommend this healthy treat from the Protein Foundry. The perfect way to start your day or to recover from a great workout, this mix of raw honey, slices of roasted almonds, bananas, and natural almond or organic peanut butter on sprouted wheatberry bread is absolutely delicious and virtually guilt-free. To add a little guilty pleasure, just ask for them to sprinkle on some cacao nibs-you deserve it!
